What is QRANK Live?

QRANK Live is a new feature that allows you to play head-to-head, in real-time against other people at your favorite restaurants, bars, theaters, and so on.

How can I get QRANK Live at a location near me?

Simply go to the Find Live screen and create a QRANKSpot. You can select the name of a nearby business or create an unlisted spot.

I'm trying to play but the game is full. What can I do?

The venue where you are playing needs to upgrade (or start) their subscription. If you can convince a manager or owner to visit getqrank.com, we'll take it from there. Player-created QRANKSpots are limited to 5 players, but this limit is increased to 10 if the venue is claimed, and gets much larger if the venue is on a paid subscription plan. Only business owners or managers can claim venues. Visit getqrank.com for more info.

Are there any requirements or known issues with QRANK Live?

Location services must be enabled in order to play.  See the bottom of the "Playing QRANK" section of the FAQ below for info on how to enable location services.

SCORING & AWARD ISSUES

I saw my name in the top 10 or 100 on a leaderboard, but didn't get the appropriate award.

In order to receive an award for being at or near the top of a leaderboard, you have to log in the next day and see where you stand.  That way, your score is being compared to everyone who played in the entire day, both before and after you.  Your place on the leaderboard immediately after you finish playing does NOT determine your awards.

I'm positive that I met the requirements for X award, but still didn't receive it!

Unfortunately, our award system has some bugs in it.  Therefore, certain awards are sometimes not properly added to peoples' accounts.  However, we plan to completely revamp how awards work by around October.  At that point, we'll scan everyone's gameplay history and automatically give them all the old awards they should have already received.  We're very sorry about the inconvenience!

I really want my awards now! Can you please fix them manually?

We would love to fix each award individually, but we sadly don't have the resources.  So, please bear with us while we work on addressing this issue.  If our planned automatic scan doesn't fix your specific issues, feel free to contact us at that point, and we'll be happy to manually fix them.

Are there any award issues that I SHOULD contact you about?

The exception to the above is location-based awards (i.e. for playing the game in a certain state or similar).  Failure to receive these awards may be due to your device not locking onto your location when you played the game in certain places.  So feel free to contact us if you encounter any issues with location awards and we'll look into it.  However, you might want to try the suggestions below first.

How can I make sure my score shows up on the correct leaderboards AND that I receive location-based awards?

If you're playing QRANK on Facebook, please make sure that the info you entered for city, state, and country in your Facebook profile is correct, since this is how the game determines what leaderboards you belong on.

If you're playing QRANK on an iPhone or iPad 3G, the game uses your device's GPS to find your location.  So, maybe try standing in a slightly different location to help the GPS get a better signal lock.  If you're playing on an iPod Touch or a WiFi iPad, you should check to see if your WiFi hotspot is registered with Skyhook (more info here).

How do I play QRANK?

The goal of QRANK is to choose 15 of the 20 possible questions and answer them quickly and accurately to beat your friends and earn achievements.  

There are seven question categories, as well as hidden bonuses, so choose your tiles carefully.  Use the power-ups to help you pick wisely.  

On the questions screens, you have a moment to read the question before the timer starts.  Tap on the correct answer.  The quicker you answer, the more points you earn.    

How many questions do I have to answer to complete a game?

 Answer 15 out of the 20 possible questions to complete a game.  

What are the question categories?

 The questions are divided into seven categories: 

	Entertainment				Sports
	Science & Nature				Literature
	History & Place				Business & Government
	Life

What does the leaf on some question icons mean?

Questions from any category may be marked "fresh." These questions are ripped straight from today's events. So as you read your morning paper or cruise your daily blogs, you may see QRANK questions based on the same news.

How do questions about recent news get in my game?

 Each day when you launch the game we download new questions into your phone.  It just takes a few seconds, and it ensures your daily game reflects what's going on around you.  

Why is there only one game per day?

 QRANK is designed to be your little daily ritual.  Whenever you have a couple of minutes to kill and crave some fresh gameplay, QRANK is there.  To ensure that you and your friends are matching wits on the same questions, we offer one game per day.  

How do I speed up the transitions between screens?


Tap on the screen to skip to the next round of the game.

What are the questions worth?

Each questions starts off with a base amount: 100 points for easy ones, 200 for medium, and 500 for hard.  Earn bonuses by answering quickly and for finding double and triple-bonuses on the question tile screen.

What are the power-ups along the bottom of the screen?

Use the power-ups to help you chose and answer your questions wisely. Use power-ups frugally, though, because they take a few turns to regenerate.

How do I invite friends to play QRANK with me?

Tap the "Friends" button on the main screen.  Tap the "Invite" button.  Tap on the contacts and Facebook friends you want to invite.  QRANK launches an email that sends your friends a link to download the game.  If you know a QRANK player's email address, tap the "Add" button to add him directly to your friends. 

How do I limit my friends to those I prefer to play with?

Tap the "Friends" screen, then tap the red stars next to the friends you prefer to play with.

Do I have to have a Facebook account to play against my friends?

 No, you can play against other QRANK players.  From the "Friends" screen, tap "Add" then either tap the "Search for Contacts" button or enter the email address of friends who're playing QRANK.  Hit "Done" and you can square off against them in the game. 

Can I still play QRANK even if I don't have friends playing it too?

 Yes, you can play QRANK anytime against QRANK's robofriends.  Some are smart, others a bit dim. 

How do I turn Facebook notifications on or off?

 On the settings page, you will find a toggle switch under the Facebook section. 

I forgot my password.


 Tap "I forgot" on the sign in screen.  We'll email you a temporary password. 

How do I access the settings screen?

Tap the lower case "i" on the bottom-right corner of the title screen.

QRANK tells me I need to enable location services. How can I do that?

For Apple devices running iOS4, hit the home button to go to the home screen, then tap on the “Settings” icon.  Next, select “General Settings” and then "Location Services".  You should see a switch where you can enable location for QRANK.

For Apple devices running iOS3 and earlier, there's no option to enable/disable location services for a single app.  One way to change your location preference for an app is to uninstall and reinstall it.  Another option is to go to the "Settings" on your device, select "General", and on the bottom of that screen choose "Reset".  If you hit "Reset Location Warnings", then the next time you launch QRANK, it will ask you the same location preference again.  However, be warned that this will also reset your location choice for all the apps on your device (meaning they may ask you the same question too, next time you start them).
